In a recent interview, George Clooney spoke candidly about his role in the infamous Batman & Robin movie and the impact it had on the franchise. Clooney, who played Batman in the 1997 film, has often been blamed for the movie’s failure.
In an episode of The Graham Norton Show, the actor who portrayed Batman shared his experiences of attending Comic-Con events. He also humorously mentioned that his only reason to attend such events is his role as the Caped Crusader. In jest, he admitted to always apologizing for the notorious Batman film he was a part of, adding that he once believed he had destroyed the franchise until someone else resurrected it.
The actor reflected on the experience and how it affected him in the years that followed. He said, “I always apologize for Batman & Robin. Let me just say that I’d actually thought I’d actually destroyed the franchise until somebody else brought it back years later and changed it.”
Clooney also expressed regret over not fully understanding the impact that playing Batman would have on his career. He said, “At that time in my career, I was still just an actor getting jobs. And I just sort of thought, ‘Well, this will be a fun gig.’ And it turned out to be a disaster.”
Despite the movie’s poor reception, Clooney has maintained a positive attitude about the experience. He acknowledges the mistakes made in the production of Batman & Robin but also recognizes the value of learning from those mistakes. He said, “It was a difficult film to be good in. With hindsight, it’s easy to look back and say, ‘Oh, well, that was a terrible film.’ But at the time, it was a big deal.”
Clooney’s humility and willingness to take responsibility for the movie’s failure have endeared him to many fans. While Batman & Robin may have been a misstep in his career, Clooney has gone on to have a successful career in film and television.
