Grant Gustin, born on January 14, 1990 in Norfolk, Virginia, is an American actor and singer who rose to fame for his performances as Barry Allen / Flash on the CW series “The Flash” and Sebastian Smythe on the Fox series “Glee”. During his high school years, he attended the Governor’s School for the Arts program in Norfolk, Virginia, for Musical Theatre and was also a part of the theatre organization, Hurrah Players Incorporated. After graduating from Granby High School in 2008, Gustin attended the BFA Music Theatre Program at Elon University in North Carolina for two years before leaving to join the Broadway Revival Tour of West Side Story as Baby John from 2010 to 2011.
Gustin made his debut on the television series “Glee” on November 8, 2011, portraying the openly gay character Sebastian Smythe. He was selected for the recurring role after a weeks-long casting search, initially auditioning for a role as a tap dancer. Gustin began filming the role after his final West Side Story performance in September 2011. He then appeared in various films, including “A Mother’s Nightmare” (2012) and “Affluenza” (2014).
In September 2013, Gustin was cast as Barry Allen in the second season of “Arrow” and was set to appear in three episodes with the last one serving as the backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off series. However, the plan was scrapped in favor of a standalone pilot, titled “The Flash“, which was later picked up with an initial order of thirteen episodes. The series premiered on October 7, 2014, with Gustin reprising his role as Barry Allen / Flash, which earned him critical acclaim. He also appeared in an episode of CBS series “Supergirl” as the same character. In 2017, Gustin co-starred with Nick Robinson in William H. Macy’s film “Krystal”.
Grant Gustin’s personal life includes his relationship with Andrea “LA” Thoma whom he began dating in January 2016 after meeting at a dinner party. Their engagement was announced on April 29, 2017, and they tied the knot on December 15, 2018.
